A group lesson at Panorama. Below, what a week of this actually costs once you are here.
Quick answer
Budget roughly €350–550 for a week in Taghazout, excluding flights. Backpackers manage €200–300; a comfortable week runs €600–930. A private room is 200–350 MAD a night, a tagine 40–70 MAD, a group surf lesson €25 and board rental €10–15 a day. The biggest saving for a beginner: take two or three lessons, then rent a board for the rest of the week.
The short answer
People ask this constantly and the answers online are useless ranges — “€450 to €800 a week” tells you nothing. So here are real numbers, in dirhams, from the village we live in.
| How you travel | Per day | 7 days | What that looks like |
|---|---|---|---|
| Backpacker | 300–450 MAD (€28–43) | €200–300 | Hostel dorm, eat where locals eat, walk everywhere, 2 surf lessons |
| Independent surfer | 550–800 MAD (€52–76) | €370–530 | Private room or apartment, board rental all week, a couple of guided days, cafes |
| Comfortable | 900–1,400 MAD (€86–133) | €600–930 | Good guesthouse or surf camp, daily lessons, restaurants, a day trip or two |
Excludes flights. Converted at roughly 10.5 MAD to the euro, August 2026. Everything below is what things cost on the ground here, not what booking platforms quote.
For most people reading this, €350 to €550 for a week is the realistic number once you are on the ground — and Taghazout is meaningfully cheaper than an equivalent surf week in Portugal or Spain.
Accommodation
| Type | Per night | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Hostel dorm bed | 80–150 MAD (€8–14) | Plenty in the village. Cheapest way to meet people |
| Private room, guesthouse | 200–350 MAD (€19–33) | The sweet spot. Often includes breakfast |
| Apartment (weekly) | 250–450 MAD/night (€24–43) | Better value for 5+ nights, and you get a kitchen |
| Surf camp, all-inclusive | €450–800 per week | Bundles bed, food, lessons and transport. Convenient, not cheap |
| Sea-view boutique | 600 MAD+ (€57+) | Exists, and books out in winter |
Winter (October to April) is high season and prices rise. Summer is noticeably cheaper — see our guide to surfing Taghazout in summer.
The thing worth knowing: an all-inclusive surf camp is not automatically the cheap option. If you book a guesthouse and pay for lessons separately, you often come out ahead — and you keep the freedom to skip a session on a bad day.
Food and drink
| Item | Real price | In euros |
|---|---|---|
| Tagine at a local restaurant | 40–70 MAD | €4–7 |
| Fish grill by the harbour | 60–120 MAD | €6–11 |
| Sandwich or msemen from a shop | 10–25 MAD | €1–2.50 |
| Mint tea | 10–15 MAD | €1–1.50 |
| Coffee at a surf cafe | 20–35 MAD | €2–3.50 |
| Smoothie / açaí bowl | 45–70 MAD | €4–7 |
| Big supermarket shop (Agadir) | 300–500 MAD | €29–48 |
| 1.5 L water | 6–8 MAD | €0.60–0.80 |
There are effectively two food economies here. Eat at the places locals eat and you will spend 80–150 MAD a day. Eat at the smoothie-bowl surf cafes on the front and you will spend three times that. Both are fine — just know which one you are choosing.
Surfing
| What | Price | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Group surf lesson | €25 per person | 2 to 2.5 hrs, board, wetsuit and instructor included |
| Private lesson | €45 per person | One to one |
| Private group lesson | €35 per person | Just your friends or family |
| Multi-day course | from €69 | 3, 5 and 7-day options |
| Surf guiding | from €60 per person | Falls per head as the group grows |
| Board rental | €10–15 / day | Roughly 105–160 MAD |
| Wetsuit rental | from €5 / day | Roughly 55 MAD |
| Board + wetsuit package | from €15 / day | Best value if you are surfing daily |
These are our published prices. There is a full market comparison in what surf lessons in Taghazout actually cost.
The cheapest way to surf a whole week is not lessons every day. Take two or three lessons until you can catch and stand on a wave unassisted, then rent a foam board for the rest of the week and practise. That is roughly €75 of lessons plus €60 of rental instead of €175 of daily lessons, and you will improve just as fast.

Full detail in getting from Agadir airport to Taghazout and how to share a taxi properly.
Where people waste the most money is the airport transfer and car hire. A car sits parked for most of a surf week. Shared grand taxis cost a few dirhams and go everywhere you actually need to go.

Where to actually save money
- Come in shoulder season. September, October, April and May have good waves and lower prices than the December–February peak.
- Book accommodation directly. Guesthouses here often quote less over WhatsApp than through a platform.
- Lessons first, rental after. Explained above. This is the single biggest saving for a beginner.
- Eat one meal a day where the taxi drivers eat. Better food, a quarter of the price.
- Share taxis. Grand taxis are shared by design and cost almost nothing.
- Carry cash. Many small places do not take cards, and ATMs charge per withdrawal. Take out larger amounts less often.
- Do not prepay activities online. Almost everything here can be booked on arrival, usually cheaper. We do not ask for prepayment at all.
A real week, costed
A typical independent surfer, staying seven nights in a private room, taking three lessons, renting a board for four days, eating a mix of local and cafe food, one day trip:
| Item | Cost |
|---|---|
| 7 nights, private room @ 280 MAD | 1,960 MAD (€187) |
| Food, ~180 MAD/day | 1,260 MAD (€120) |
| 3 group surf lessons | €75 |
| Board + wetsuit, 4 days | €60 |
| Airport transfer, return, shared | ~400 MAD (€38) |
| Local taxis all week | ~150 MAD (€14) |
| One sandboarding trip | €35 |
| Total, excluding flights | ~€529 |
Prices checked August 2026. Your flights will almost certainly cost more than your week here.
That is a full week of surfing, eating well and doing something other than surfing, for less than the flight in most cases. It is the main reason people who come here once tend to come back.
