Beginner Surf Lessons in Taghazout

Never surfed before? You're exactly who we built this for. Learn on gentle, sandy-bottom beginner waves with patient certified local instructors — and ride your first wave the same day.

Taghazout is one of the best places on earth to learn to surf — and a beginner lesson here is the easiest, most fun way to start. The bay is wrapped in long, gentle beach breaks with warm water and sunshine almost every day of the year, so you spend your time catching waves instead of fighting them.

In a single beginner session you'll go from the sand to standing up on white-water waves, with a local instructor right beside you the whole time. We keep groups small (max 6), match the board and the spot to your level, and make sure you actually have fun while you learn.

Why beginners choose InTaghazout

Good to know

Beginner questions, answered

Can I really learn to surf if I've never tried before?+

Yes — almost everyone we teach starts as a complete beginner. Taghazout has some of the gentlest, most forgiving learner waves in the world, and your instructor stays right beside you for the whole session. Most people are riding white-water waves within their first hour.

Is Taghazout a good place for beginners to surf?+

It's one of the best on the planet. Alongside the famous point breaks for experts, the bay is full of soft, sandy beginner beaches like Panoramas, Banana Beach and Crocro. We pick the calmest, safest spot for the day's conditions — see our guide to the best surf spots in Taghazout.

Will I stand up on my first surf lesson?+

Most beginners ride their first white-water waves on day one. We rehearse the pop-up on the sand first, then put you on a soft, beginner-friendly board in shallow water with a push onto each wave, so standing up comes surprisingly fast.

Is surfing safe for first-time surfers?+

Very. Beginner lessons run in shallow, sandy-bottom water on soft foam boards, with certified local instructors supervising at all times and groups kept small. We always choose the safest beach for your level and the day's conditions.

What's included in a beginner lesson, and what should I expect?+

Every lesson includes your surfboard, a wetsuit in your size and a bottle of water. You'll start with a beach briefing on safety and technique, then get plenty of coached time in the water with personal feedback. Sessions run 2–2.5 hours in small groups of up to 6.

How fit do I need to be, and is there an age limit?+

You don't need to be especially fit or a strong swimmer to start — if you're comfortable in waist-deep water, you can surf. We welcome everyone from age 7 upwards, including teens, adults and families. Travelling as a group? See our private group lessons.

Do I need to book my surf lessons in advance?+

Booking ahead guarantees your preferred day and time, especially in busy season — but we're flexible and often have space at short notice. Message us on WhatsApp and we'll confirm availability, sometimes even for the same day.

What should I bring to a beginner surf lesson?+

Just swimwear (wear it under your clothes), a towel, sunscreen and something warm for after. We provide the surfboard, wetsuit and water. Leave valuables at your hotel — hotel pickup in Taghazout or Agadir is available on request.

When is the best time of year to learn to surf in Taghazout?+

You can learn year-round thanks to the mild climate, but summer brings the gentlest waves and warmest water — ideal for first-timers. For a full month-by-month breakdown, read the best time to surf in Taghazout.
