Horse Riding on the Beach in Taghazout
One long stretch of hard sand between Taghazout and Tamraght, the Atlantic on one side and the argan hills on the other. No experience needed, and the sunset ride is the one everybody books.
The stretch of sand between Taghazout and Tamraght empties out in the late afternoon. The surfers go in, the wind drops, and the beach turns into one long flat run of hard-packed sand with the Atlantic breaking beside it. That is when we ride.
Horse riding on the beach in Taghazout needs no experience at all. Our horses are calm, used to the sound of the sea, and a guide rides with you the whole way. It is the easiest activity we offer and, judging by the photos people send us afterwards, the one they remember.

When to ride, and why the tide matters
Beach riding in Taghazout depends on the tide more than the weather. At low and mid tide the sand between Taghazout and Tamraght is wide, firm and perfect for riding. At high tide, especially on a big winter swell, the water pushes right up to the rocks in places and the good stretch disappears.
That is why we do not publish a fixed daily timetable. Tell us the day you want and we will give you the window that actually works, which through most of the year is the two or three hours before sunset.
Best months: honestly, all of them. Summer rides are best in the early evening once the heat has gone. Winter afternoons are mild and the light is extraordinary. The only days we cancel are the rare ones with heavy rain or a swell big enough to close the beach.
Who beach riding in Taghazout suits
- Complete beginners. This is the point. No lesson needed, no experience assumed.
- Families. Younger children are led on foot by a guide while the adults ride.
- Non-surfers in a surf group. If half your group is in the water all week, this is what the other half has been looking for.
- Experienced riders. Say so when you book and we will give you a horse with more in it and open sand to use it on.

Horse riding in Taghazout: your questions answered
Do I need to have ridden a horse before?
No. Most people who ride with us have never sat on a horse. The beach route is flat, the horses are calm and used to beginners, and a guide rides with you the whole way. If you have ridden before and want to trot or canter on the open sand, say so and we will match you with the right horse.
Where does the ride go?
Along the open sand between Taghazout and Tamraght, with the Atlantic on one side and the argan hills on the other. Depending on the tide we ride at the water's edge on hard-packed sand, or higher up through the dunes.
How long is the ride?
The standard ride is one hour, which is the right length for a first-timer. Two-hour rides are available if you want to get further up the coast, and sunset rides are the most popular booking of the day.
What is the minimum age for horse riding in Taghazout?
Children from about 6 can ride, led by a guide on foot. From roughly 10 upwards most kids can handle their own horse at walking pace. Tell us the ages when you book and we will set it up properly.
What should I wear to go horse riding on the beach?
Long trousers or leggings rather than shorts, and closed shoes with a small heel if you have them. Bring sunglasses and sunscreen. Helmets are available and we recommend them.
Can I combine horse riding with a surf lesson?
Yes, and it is a good pairing. Surf in the morning when the wind is lightest, ride at sunset when the sand is cool and the light is at its best. Message us and we will arrange both in one day.
