Banana Point: the wave for the days when nothing else is working

A long, slow right-hander near the banana plantations of Aourir. It does not need much swell, it does not punish mistakes, and on a small clean morning it is one of the most enjoyable waves on this coast.

Gentle right-hand point break along the Moroccan Atlantic coast near Tamraght

The coast between Taghazout and Agadir, where Banana Point breaks near the banana plantations.

Quick answer

Banana Point is a mellow right-hand point near Aourir and Tamraght, named after the roadside banana stalls. It works on 1 to 3 ft — genuinely small swell — which makes it the go-to when the points north are flat. Sand and rock bottom, long rides, and forgiving enough for improvers and longboarders.

What Banana Point is

Banana Point is named after the banana plantations and the roadside stalls selling bananas and fresh juice on the way to Aourir. It is a long, slow right-hander that peels for a surprising distance when the sand is doing the right thing.

It is the opposite of Killers in every way: it wants small swell, it does not hold size, and nothing about it is intimidating.

Who Banana Point suits

Improvers making the step from whitewater to green waves, longboarders, and anybody who wants a long ride rather than a steep one. It is also a good second-week spot for people who started at Panorama and want more wall to work with.

Not a beginner-first-lesson wave — there is rock under the sand in places — but a reasonable step up once you can already stand.

Getting there

About 10 minutes south of Taghazout by car, near Aourir. Parking is along the road. It is on the way back from Agadir, which makes it an easy stop if you are already driving that way — see getting from Agadir to Taghazout.

Nearby options

Devil’s Rock is a couple of minutes further and handles more size. Panorama is back towards Taghazout. If Banana is working and the points are flat, that is a genuinely small day and the right call is usually to enjoy it rather than chase something bigger.

Frequently asked

Is Banana Point good for beginners?+

It suits improvers rather than complete beginners. There is rock under the sand in places. If it is your first time on a board, start at Panorama or Devil's Rock with an instructor.

How much swell does Banana Point need?+

Very little. It works on 1 to 3 ft, which is why it is the spot to check when the points north of Taghazout are flat.

Where is Banana Point?+

Near Aourir, roughly 10 minutes south of Taghazout on the road towards Agadir, by the banana stalls the spot is named after.

Is Banana Point good for longboarding?+

Yes. Long, slow, sloping right-handers on a small clean swell are close to ideal longboard conditions.
